im trying to burn the contents of a PAL DVD back up to DVD-R.my standalone Philips DVDR3545V/37 is capable of playing PAL,as confirmed by customer service this morning.the burn is successful as the contents of the DVD are displayed in explorer and will play as a DVD on the PC.although it will not play on my standalone.i have successfully burnt the same DVD using the IFOEDIT trick to convert PAL to NTSC,which did play on the Philips but not without video lag.before i attempt a full conversion to get the Disc to play on my standalone i would like to know if anyone has any advice.perhaps i am overlooking something, one small detail im not doing right.if anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be appreciated.thank you

does the original pal disc play? if so the only things i might try is to make sure you remove the region code during the backup, burn using imgburn, and use a high quality dvdr like verbatim or taiyo yuden.
oh and make sure the dvd player is set up to output ntsc even when playing a pal disc if it needs to be. -
i dont have the original as it is a back up and has since been damaged.i have removed the region codes of the back up with IFOEDIT,the back up itself will also play on the pc.i am primarily using imgburn, and using Sony DVD-R v2.1 discs.according to Philips the unit should automatically play PAL,without further adjustment.as i said the burn seems fine but the player loads it then comes up with the error message "playback feature may not be available on this disc".thank you for the response.

How many other PAL DVDs have you watched on your Philips DVDR3545V/37?

the thing with dvd shrink is when i go to use it i get the windows error "dvd shrink has stopped working".then the solution is posted,it suggests i update to the latest version.which leads to the "dvd shrink 2008" website and in order to download it you have to give them your email address.im a lil suspicious of this and haven't pursued it any further.do you know of this?is this legit?if so,i will download and dvd shirink will most likely solve my problem.its the only pal i know of ive tried in my machine.thanks

No, its not legit. Not at all. DVD Shrink is an older piece of software, and it does not remove some of the more modern copy protections.
