Can anyone reccomend a free firewall thats fairly easy to use, I used ZA before and that was ok to set up so along the lines of that.
Ive searched and found that most people here have comodo firewall but I saw bad reviews on it![]()

For spyware I had Spybot & Ad Aware but one of them (cant remember which one) kept messing up my Limewire start up after I cleared up what I found in the searches. Are there any better ones?
thanks

Searched and here's one ..... https://forum.videohelp.com/topic354191.html?highlight=firewall -
You could give Online Armor a try its similar to zone alarm and seems to work well,it was the only firewall that I could get to work propley after upgrading to kaspersky av 2009.

For spyware Malwarebytes anti-malware and/or super antispyware.

I've used Zone Alarm for years and never had a reason to switch.
If I had to guess, I'd guess that Ad Aware probably hosed you and not SpyBot. I've had issues with Ad Aware before and I stopped using it as a result some years ago.
You do understand that Limewire is VERY risky, right? The MPAA and RIAA both have the ability to track what you download via Limewire. Yes I know you're in the UK, but do you really believe that you're safe? I don't. If you must use it, I strongly encourage you to stop sharing once you have downloaded whatever it is you want. My advice would be to not use it at all though. -
If your using limewire u need proper protection, download freebies/malware/spyware cheap protection=get virus
your spybot/adaware was probably telling you that you need to do something?? -
All of the recommended firewalls are reputed to be good ones but I don't know if the free Outpost 1.0 is compatible with Vista. The latest incarnation of the free Zone Alarm fw seems to work really well as does the free Online Armor offering. I guess it's me, but I've had problems with Comodo in that I can't get it to remember permissions.
For antispyware, I recommend (free) Malwarebytes and have also had good results with the free A-Squared application (Link), and I also like Ad-Aware 2008 but haven't ever used any of these programs with Limewire.

Just an additional note to my previous post. It's stated that online Armor does not work with Vista, but it will if UAC is turned off. If you are uncomfortable with doing that, then the Zone Alarm fw is probably what I would go for.

I use Comodo firewall, Avast, Spybot and Spyware Blaster on my Vista machines at present and they all get along with each other, as they do on my XP computers. With programs like LimeWire or other P2P type programs, you may have to set up special rules or exemptions with your firewall programs or you may find them blocked at times. I also disable the useless Vista firewall, but let Defender alone, though to date, it hasn't found or blocked a single thing.
Any firewall can be a PITA, at least until you get it set up for your habits and programs. But it will also block a lot of crap before your anti-malware programs have to deal with it.
