  1. Well, I was just sitting at my house, thinking about stuff and junk, when I started thinking about emulators. I know that an emulator for PS2, Xbox, etc. on your computer would just run too slow for playability, and nobody wants to play those games on your computer anyways. I have often read, however, that if an operating system was made that would emulate, it could run very well, if not better than the actual machine, since all the computers resources and cpu would go to the emulator rather than things like trying to run Windows. So, I thought wouldn't it be awesome if someone could write some type of OS that would play all the new video games that run on discs. Since I believe that all new video game systems are moving towards some type of dvd disc, you could equip some type of cheap desktop case with a rather fast processor, 1 ghz+, and put a rather fast dvd rom drive on it, along with an awesome graphics accelerator with tv-out so you could play on your tv. The only problem that I could think of would be a difference in controllers, which could probably solved rather easily. I just thought it would be pretty awesome to be able to go to a store, or however you get your games....legal or illegal, and it wouldn't matter what kind of system it was made for, because your system plays xbox, ps, ps2,gamecube, etc. Could you guys just tell me if you think this is possible at all, or if it is a really stupid idea????

  2. the xbox is currently being hacked and all that good stuff as to be able to play dvd\vcd\svcd\divx w\o any additonal hardware.
Also Mame and some other emu has been proted to run on xbox

there SHOULD be an emu for xbox and there is NOT a REAL emu for ps2.

  3. To properly emulate a console system, a PC needs to have nearly 3x the processing power of the original (as I understand it), so to emulate an Xbox, which runs at 733mhz, you'd need a system running at 2.3ghz (which don't really exist yet for PC home usage). By the time you set up a computer like that (a "cheap" dedicated system) you might as well get the individual consoles! It'd be cheaper. Everybody is holding emulator hopes for the xbox, but they aren't done yet, and nobody knows whether it'll properly be able to handle ps2 (which, let's face it, is what people want) which is nearly (or more than - depending on who you talk to) as powerful a system.

  4. that information is STRICTLY FALSE about pc power gotta be 3x faster

Look at the n64 it runs i think around 94 mhz i think

CoRn that emulates the n64 can be ran on a 66 mhz processor!

    So that information is false.

And besides, there are faster pcs than 2.2 ghz out right now
Hell, im gettin the 2 mp1800+ that runs at 3.06 GHz
there is a new mp that is the mp1900 and its even faster.
    the mp1800 is 2 1.53 ghz processors.

  5. Sean is right

You don't need a hella-box to run every game system. I have a "everything" box that runs flawlessly....and it could still be downsized.

    Asus CUVX Board
    PIII 600
    256 Mb. ram
    Acer 52x cd-rom
    Win98se
    SB Live OEM
    Voodoo 3 w/TV out OEM
    Maxtor 40 Gig HD

And it runs flawlessly!!! Total after all was only about $600.00 (without OS, but who doesn't have an old copy of 98 sitting around?)

    Heres what I'm running

All Atari Series (2600, 5200, 7800, lynx, jaguar)
    Colecovision
    Intellevision
    Nes
    SNES
N64 (roms are all on disc)
Sega series (genesis, sms, cd, 32x)
    psx
    dc
    M.A.M.E.

And aside from the discs, I have the full romsets right on the box.

I have not tried the xbox or ps2 "emu" yet, but due to the fact of what I can do with the psx and dc, I have a good feeling that they will run as well. However, you have to be patient, remember how crappy UltraHLE emu for N64 was when it came out? And now there's full compatability? The emus get better and better......

(Plus this box doubles as my divx player )

SO in conclusion..... I feel the money spent is definitely worthwhile for an all in one computer.....

  8. I do not have the info here at work, but, I dl'd it at arcadeathome.com. If Tim pulled it offline, go to emuchina.net (it's all in chinese, but just do a page search for dc-emu)
