    I'm really stuck!
    I've just been given a Panasonic DMR-HS2 hard-drive /dvd recorder / player as a rather lovely gift.
I've wired it up as per the instructions (and every other conceivable combination), and have the following problem:
I can watch freeview through my set top box as normal, and can watch dvd's as expected.
However, I can only get the DMR-HS2 to recognise terrestrial channels, not the extra free view channels as I had hoped.
I have tried removing the scart which goes from the digibox to the harddrive recorder and connecting it directly to the TV, which worked, confirming that the signal is going out of the digibox correctly, and that the scart lead is working.
When I remove the 'normal' arial (co-axial?)from the harddrive recorder it recognised NO channels...
So it would appear, the DVD/harddrive recorder is only looking at the analogue, co-axial signal, and ignoring the scart signal.
I'm really at my wit's end, so any help would be very gratefully recieved!!!
    Thanks in advance,

    Will.

In case anyone else is having this problem, I have now discovered that this model doesn't have a freeview decoder, hence the soultion I was trying for didn't exist!
It is possible to record the freeview channel you are watching though...

I have a 2yr old Sony HDD/DVD recorder and it also does not have an internal digital tuner (that feature started appearing in these devices in the following year). I also have a Sky set top box (STB), so my setup should be similar to yours.

First, my Sony has several different inputs, the correct one needs to be selected using the remote before you can see that source. The correct one is whatever it calls the RGB enabled SCART input.

Having done that, the way I've got mine hooked up is:

    (1) SCART from VCR into STB. This was the STBs passthrough from the VCR. Obviously this step is optional if you no longer own a VCR, but having this in the chain is very handy for VHS->DVD conversions.

    (2) SCART from STB to HDD/DVD recorder. For superior picture quality the STB should be configured to output RGB signals. This is the SCART connection that used to go to your TV, it now goes to the HDD/DVD recorder instead so you can record anything that you could previously see on your TV. Plus of course this step let you play DVDs.

    (3) SCART from HDD/DVD recorder output to RGB enabled input on the TV. Make sure the TV has this input selected, and not some UHF channel.

Thats it. You should now be able to view VHS, DVD and Freeview channels, and you can record any VHS or Freeview signal you can see. And, you can play DVDs.

[Edit] Oh yes. The only place you need a coax is to connect your aerial to your STB. There is no need for the coax to go anywhere else (eg. the HDD/DVD recorder doesn't need it).
