I lost six DVDs + DL 8.5 GB trying to record with Asus 2014 sata driver video already ripped to HD with DVD FAB Decrypter and using Nero Recode last version 3140 from Nero8 Pack.
At final stage recording making lead out Nero says :

    Burning Process failled at 8x
Could not perform end of Disc at once
    Power calibration area error

The disc is not finalized is open and plays perfect on PC but not at DVD Player

If I record same video at same Writer on a DVD +- R 4.7 GB everything is OK the disc is closed at lead out and Plays well on PC or DVD Player

Same occurs if I use IMG BURN instead of Nero Recode

    What is happening ?
Could be a Writer or soft fault ?

    Thanks in advance!!

What brand DVD+R DL discs? We recommend ONLY Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. Using other brands is often a problem. However, if I remember correctly the infamous "power calibration" error might be fixed by upgrading your firmware, so definitely do that AND use only Verbatim DVD+R DL discs AND only burn with ImgBurn.

    Discs are Philips and Ricoh
Firmware is the last one 1.02
The problem occurs with Nero and IMG Burn as well

Your problem is the use of low grade DVD+R DUAL LAYER media. As mentioned use only VERBATIM DVD+R DUAL LAYER media or have a spindle full of coasters with those PHILIPS & RICOH DL media.

    Hello !

I bought recently a new pc with one of this drives. Been using it with no problems to read, etc. When i'm going to burn, nero displays the error "power calibration failure"... also tried with alcohol 120%, but this app gives no error message, it only crashes.
I was able to "burn" something after using "auto detect speed" + "simulate" + "write", but when instaling the program i burned, it just froze at 80% of installation...

I've been able to burn some data discs so far though, and aparently they work fine, but this power calibration failure thing... sigh...

can anyone help me? plz !

This is the nero log :

fjmr - I told you something you could do in my post that might solve this problem and it did not involve buying Verbatim discs, although you are really wasting your money trying to burn to Ricoh and Philips discs.

    I am Happy again

    Here is the solution

Open Nero 8 start smart and toolbox

Look for NeroDiscSpeed and then Extra and finally Bit Setting

Bit Setting click on DVD ROM for all

    That is the Trick!!!!

    Now complete victory.
The problem cameback but I could solve it finally.
It was a power laser related problem.
My OS Vista was setup for energy economy so there was not enough power for the laser.
I changed that for full perform instead and that did the Trick!!! :P :P :P
