    Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem whilst trying to embed subtitles into a video using virtualdubmod (I'm not sure what the difference is between that and virtualdub, but I can't open the video in vd and I believe vdmod can do it anyway). The problem is, when it comes to saving the video and embedding the subtitles, the file turns out huge ! After saving just the first 5 minutes of the film the file was 10gb ! Surely there is a way around this ? It's probably something simple I'm overlooking. If anyone knows I'll be grateful !

    Thanks

  2. You forgot to use video (and/or) audio compression, and are saving as uncompressed .avi

sounds like you are saving as an uncompressed avi at a guess you need to select a codec under compression( VIDEO/ COMPRESSION or ctrl + P) ie divx or whatever format you wish to save as .

    Poisondeathray beat me to it

poisondeathray is right about what's happening with virtualdubmod. Might want to try Avi Recomp to easily embed subtitles into avi.

I'm a big fan of VDub, but actually it's an annoying feature that it defaults to uncompressed video on startup. I too have sometimes forgotten to select a codec before doing a dub with new settings. I appreciate you can save the codec selection in a processing settings file, but IMHO it would be better if you could set a global default behaviour somewhere.

Yeah, but how is VD going to be sure what codecs are on the system (even the MS ones), and set a default codec that would be on all systems (from Win95 all the way to Vista)?

(I know, there probably IS one or two, but it's probably one that nobody's going to want to use to make their AVIs.

(Okay, I'm done. (dodges rotten tomatoes))
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
