Hello all, I am new to this forum, but have been a regular user of the cdfreaks forum until yesterday when accessing their web page keeps giving me an error message (I am trying to resolve it through internet research and have contacted them directly but so far have no response).
I have been using DVDFab Platinum (newest version 5.0.7.6) for a few weeks (so you see I am new to the burning process) and have learned a lot, but am still learning and a newcomer to this process. I have gotten the basics down regarding burning DVD backups, have a fairly good understanding of different media, different formats, etc. I am now trying to learn about backing up PS2 discs. I have been told that clone in DVDFab will work, but it did not (burned to a Verbatim dvd+rdl 8.5g with a lite-on dvdrw sohw 1693S). I have been referred to a program called ImgBurn for this process, but have not tried it yet. My question is this: will a backed up PS2 game run in the playstation without modification to the actual unit regardless of the software used? When I researched this I found links to information about something called a MOD chip.
I hope I have included enough information in this post. I use WindowsXP SP3, have a 298gb (244 free) hard drive, and almost 1 g of hard RAM.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If I need to give more information, please let me know. Also, if there are links to this info, I have not found them and would appreciate a point in the right direction.
Thanks
KathiD

no backup of any kind will work in a ps2, without a modchip or other copy protection circumvention.

Thanks for feedback -
the non chip, no-soldier things don't work well or damage the laser. unless you are a mil-spec certified assembler i wouldn't recommend trying to install a chip yourself. there are still a couple places in canada you can get pre-modded consoles from.

that's what is required, or make sure he always uses the dvd cases for transporting the games and they won't get damaged. to save transporting the ps2 grandma might buy him a older model ps3 that also plays the ps2 games -

We actually have the PS2 game console at our home. And transporting does not just involve possible damage, but losing things too (he's only 9 and is not excessively responsible yet, even with things he is really fond of).
So people who buy this BreakerPro setup are wasting their money, or is it sort of a crapshoot as to whether or not the games work?
And I really never considered doing the mod chip thing ... I draw the line at any type of hardware issue that involves opening up a case ... I know my limitations. I stick to software! And I have caused myself enough grief there to be a bit more cautious than I was 5 years ago also. -
You can use Swap Magic 3 discs to play backup ps2 dvds, they are swap discs which required no soldering or opening the ps2 and work on most ps2 games except for dual layer dvd games which most solder type mod chips have problems playing anyways.Just search google for Swap Magic 3 for more info.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
