I tried to back up my "Amazing grace" movie with dvd-shrink. I'm sure that DVD brought something to my computer, something like a virus that make my drive dissapears. If I reboot I got back the cd drive but if I open Nero the pc slows down and then the drive dissapears again.

When I say dissapears I mean if I open "computer" there is no cd or dvd-rom drive, no letter assign to it. And if I want to burn something with Nero I can't choose the destination drive because it's not in the list.

Does anyone have had the same problem?

Can somebody help me how to avoid this?

This sound like a virus but windows live does not detect anything.

    THanks

  2. The disc probably contains an Autorun.inf that executes some drive disabling code via Windows' auto-insert notification. So disable Windows' auto-insert notification. You can do this temporarily by holding down one of the shift keys when inserting the DVD.

Reboot without the disc in the drive. Once Windows has booted, hold down a shift key and insert the disc. Continue holding down the key until Windows has seen the disc and the drive stops spinning. Now you can open the drive with Explorer.

THanks for the suggestio. I'm going to do that in the future anytime I insert a DVD.

But now that the damage is already done, what can I do to resolve this issue?

Do a Windows Restore back to a point in time before this started happening. That would be the first thing I would try.
