Help a Noob day

lo peeps - i have a wee prob maybe 1 of u could help me with.

i wanna convert an mpeg file to video cd using nero - the problem is that when i have burned the finished article and played it in my dvd player - i get a no disc.
my dvd plays vcd so i dont know what the problem is - its a pal system i have and i have converted it to pal and the like - i wanna know if any1 can tell me the settings for nero so that it'll burn correctly - i tried the help section here but ot only shows u the default settings - i have tried and made 4 coasters with these settings.
Also tried to burn an avi film with the same results.
i have burned some films with ez cd creator in the past which work well so i know it aint a dvd player prob.
i am a total noob in this area and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you burning in vcd mode?

Have you tried with both cd-r and cd-rw?

ive not tried cd-rw only cd-r - will this make a difference? - and yeah i selected vcd

yes it will make a difference if your dvd player doesnt support cd-r... it should work with the cd-rw
