recently upgraded to macbook pro and fcp studio,
previously using a powerbook and fcp 5.1.4,
used to be able to go Export>Quicktime Conversion>Mpeg2 directly from timeline,
seems like with 6 i got to export using compressor from timeline,
am i missing an mpeg-2 component or is this the case?

possibly. check the /library/Quicktime folder of the new machine.
if the QT Mpeg-2 component isn't there, re-install from disc.

got an mpeg2 codec component in the qt library,
so unless anyone knows different they musta left the option out on fcp6,
shame 'cos it was always handy,

from what I've read thus far, it looks like they want you to go to Compressor
FIRST, and then Compressor will do the job, in FCP 6.

been using compressor to export from timeline,
    can't knock it,always does a decent job,
just miss the ease of the qt conversion,
really need to dip into manual and find how to make a preset but heavy text brings me out in a rash
