what is this format?

I am trying to put together a wedding video I shot. I filmed on a Cannon GL 2, and captured with no problems into Premiere CS3 (easy peasy). I happened to get in contact with a family member from this wedding who also shot some footage. He mailed copies of this footage to me on DVDRs. Problem is.. I have NO idea how to get his files into Premiere. The DVD does not auto play into anything, and when I open the file folder, everything is in ".MTS" format. I did a firefox "find" for .MTS on some of these forums and came up empty handed. Has anybody run into this before and have an answer for me? I really really need the audio he captured during the actual wedding ceremony. At this point I'll even buy a program to convert it if that is the only answer.

amg i think i just found an answer from sopa. I think VoltaicHD is what im looking for?
