This may be a little tougher than I expected. I'm really not an audio guy so forgive my ignorance on this stuff.

I need to run audio from my receiver to my computer to capture/stream while at the same time listening over my speakers the same way I always have. Surely there has to be a pretty easy way to do this, right? I'm not having any luck with my own attempts, though, and I can't get to where I can see the back of my receiver (I can barely reach and I have to just feel while looking at the diagram in the manual.

I have a Sony STR-DG800. Here's Sony's page on it if that helps.

I have 4 RCA audio devices and 1 (potentially 2) TOSLINK. I'd like all of those devices to play out to my computer.

What should I be looking for? Could the Pre-Out or Zone 2 Out mean anything for me? I honestly just don't get this stuff.

  2. Move the amp where you can see the required area. It will be a lot simpler to do this BEFORE you have broken a cable end off in the connector.

Alternate method would be to just keep poking blindly in the dark until you eventually find one that works, that is providing you can be certain you have tried them all without looking at it.

Well, I figured out the Zone 2 trick. That works for my RCA audio sources. The TOSLINK might be a bit tricky, as it seems it won't play out over Zone 2.

Moving the receiver really isn't an option... it can't be pulled forward without the speaker cables falling out. Fortunately it's not TOO hard to deal with since I use the manual as a map.

The MD/Tape output should give you a stereo signal that you could feed into the computer's line-in jack. See page 9 of the user manual.
