On 3 different videos I've converted to VOB with mkv2vob, or mpg with gotsent, the video (i've tried 3, all with the same problem) turns out fine.

It's the audio that is the problem. I can hear background sounds, music, but on all 3 different videos -- the voices are missing.

The videos I'm using are .mkv format, in high def.

    Any help?

I could have swore I've downloaded all the necessary programs that go with it.

edit; strange, it seems they do convert fine -- the sound is there on my PC, but it wont play sound on the PS3 -- and the quality looks awful :/

The sound problem sounds like codec incompatibility issue. The source audio is likely multichannel and is in a format not supported by your software. Either way, you need to know what you are working with before you start a project. You can't simply assume all mkv files (or any file type for that matter) are the same and expect the same results from each file. You need to know the file specs (at a minimum the audio and video codecs used) and what format/types your software support.

    My PS3 tells me it's...

'dolby digital, 5.1 Ch. 48 kHz, 630-650 kbps AVC, 3-8 Mbps'

Seems like all the videos that wont play are having the same problem -- I also know for a fact that other people have watched them fine on their PS3s. Firmware is all up to date and all.

ahhh... think i may have figured it out.

these videos are all in 5.1 ch, my setup with the TV doesn't have that. seems like it needs to be in 2 CH for it to work ( all my videos that are 2 CH play fine ).

now, I just have to figure out how to change my videos to 2 CH

Extract the the video and audio with MKVExtract, convert audio with DAudioK to 2-chan...mux video and new audio with tsMuxerGUI....Should work for you.

I have a Sony PS3 (80GB model) and I'm only using the standard RCA stereo audio outputs and have no problem with this method when there is 5.1 AC-3 present.

The PS3 has various menus on setting up how "things" like AUDIO are processed so you probably have the AUDIO settings set up incorrectly. Double check these settings. I know I had to adjust them.

I've played around with all the audio options I can.

The only thing I can think of, is there's some sort of issue with the HDMI cable. Movies work fine, games, 2ch videos, etc.

Thank you for the links (to the other guy), hope it works!
