  2. If your D-Link router supports QOS (my D-Link DIR-655 does), then go to the QOS Engine section and enable it. Also, in the same section, add uTorrent and set it's priority to 255. That gives the uTorrent traffic the lowest priority. QOS doesn't throttle your P2P traffic, it just tells your router to give other traffic, like HTTP/FTP/eMail packets, higher priority.

  4. In mine, it is the 3rd or 4th button on the left side of the Advanced Settings section. What model of D-Link router do you have?

  7. It doesn't look like the DIR-615 offers QOS functionality. The only other thing that I can suggest is, in uTorrent itself, to decrease the "Global Maximum Number of Connections" setting to about 130-150. Higher values seem to degrade performance on non-P2P traffic on some D-Link routers.

If you aren't familiar with it, the Port Forward site can help sometimes when setting up a router: http://portforward.com/ Also if you are using uTorrent, check their site for some tips: http://www.utorrent.com/guides.php Check their forums also.

uTorrent is fairly good about not dragging down other connections compared to some P2P clients, but it will always have some affect on your overall bandwidth. Mostly because of number of connections. One option is to schedule it to run when you aren't using your computer for other things, like overnight. And be aware, some ISPs target P2P services and can reduce your speeds, often without notifying you, if they think you are using too much bandwidth.
