  1. i bought some 3rd party refill carts by Logic which apparently work with all the r260 versions. i can't get the printer to read them. i tried doing them one at a time which actually works until you get to one like Cyan or Light Magenta and then it rejects all six carts. any ideas?

It's a bit different to use non Epson carts in the newer Epson printers. With some printers, depending on the date it was made, and firmware, you have to leave one or 2 legit Epson carts in, and load the rest up with generics. On some of the printers you can't use all generic carts at the same time.

The place you bought the carts from should have directions on this. If not, check with different ink resellers, most have this info on their site.
Linux _is_ user-friendly. It is not ignorant-friendly and idiot-friendly.

  3. well here's where i messed up. since the original carts were "empty" by the status monitor's opinion, i threw them out. i was in a hurry to go away on a trip and i wasn't thinking straight. after all that my reseller told me i might need them to trouble shoot these carts which is annoying

It is really important to check the date your printer before you purchase an R260, R280, RX680... C120 3rd party bulk ink or cis.
InkRepublic has all the info online telling you how to find the detail
    http://www.inkrepublic.com/KnowledgeBase/Date.asp

As for the resetting procedure, some CIS or refill card can not reset and must buy the new system / carts, or if you can find a similar setup like a resetting button, it may work well:

I hate Epson. I will NEVER buy any of their products again. I recently bought an RX595. The freakin' thing refused to recognize the ink cartridges that came with it in the box. I looked on the internet. There is no fix for this. The fix, if you can call it that, is to replace the printer.

Why does this happen? Simple. Epson is paranoid that somebody might try to use a non-Epson made ink cartridge in their printers, so their printers are too fussy and sometimes won't recognize any cartridges as being legit. I had enough of this b.s. so I bought a Canon instead. It just works. Oh, and by the way for those who might not know, Epson holds a bogus US patent that prevents other printer companies from being allowed to print to disc (CD/DVD) media in the USA unless they license it from Epson. Nice.
Canon refuses to pay this fee (good for them), so I found a way on the internet to make my Canon printer print to disc media.

mrtunes - Please don't buy another Epson. Don't waste your money on this completely unnecessary b.s. they have caused you. Here's a link to the info on how to make US sold Canon printers print to disc media:

  7. hi jam - Epson also has another problem where they lie to consumers about ink levels on their expensive ink. you see that on the r200 if you have the service utility thing installed which lets you freeze ink levels. unbelievable how much longer the thing can keep printing for.

in another thread i mention that i bought a HP 5360 for $75. the model is different in the states. genuine ink refills will cost me $40 in total. the HP rep at staples told me that they actually hold the patent for the CDs in canada, i guess it's different in the US. he says it's not a big deal who holds the patent, the truth is it's a niche market so that's why you don't see CD support on many printers on the whole. and since Epson cators to a real photo crowd(6 tanks means higher quality prints), that's why they have more models with CDs in them.

if this HP printer sucks i might be compelled to go try the canon thing. but i really hope that in the future this situation improves and better companies support the CD printing.

    Hi guys,

its even worse, I just wanna mention "wasteink has to be replaced" which is popped up by the Epson utils as "one or more hardware parts of your printer seem to be damaged & need to be replaced. Contact the epson support." EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHH!

SSSC is famous, but not all epson printers are supported. There is another, epson mechanican tool in the web, easy findable by searching.

    @jman98,

you should give the printer back & also get your money back for a printer that wont work.
