makin a movie fit?

i ripped a movie to my hardrive, am now trying to burn it. but the movie is to big, is there anyway to make it fit?

Aside form the almost total lack of details in your question, reducing a DVD to fit a single layer disc, or converting an avi to DVD, are covered by hundreds of guides and tutorials.
