I just saw this RCA DRC275 at BestBuy for $49 In-store, website sale $42.49. Its so small, upconverts 1080i, and has an HDMI output. I can't seem to locate any info or hacks on this model. Is it brand new perhaps? If anyone has any info or hacks or know if its hackable, please post.

I just bought one a few days back at best buy ($41.99?)

So far the only thing I've been able to do is the following to see version numbers and current region setting:

    [setup] [1][3][7][9]

For lots of the RCA models the following seems to be the trick to set to all regions:
    power on without a disc
    open the tray
    [clear][1][3][6][9][0]
    power off

However my remote control lacks a clear button I've tried other buttons to no avail.

After you verify that it works, please post it in the DVD Hacks section.

If you read completely my previous post, you'll notice that it states that only the check of region code part works, the region-free part won't because theres no CLEAR button, I was hoping someone else might figure it out for us.

I just bought one of these too. I'd also be interested in a region hack, and also a remote code which will work with my old Yamaha receiver's universal remote. I have tried many and none work yet. RCA's documentation is minimal. I suppose that's to be expected with such a cheap product. At least the player works well.

well here is my attempt to prevent this thread for dying.

my drc275 still works fine for region 1. the above codes work as stated.

as to he last comment, it works good, and appears to have a great upconversion routine, as regular DVDs look really nice on my Philips LCD HDTV.

sure would be nice to know if using a remote from some other rca unit would produce the desired result with the above code for region free, i wonder if this remote just lacks the button.

    Hi Folks.

I have a universal RCA remote control and tried to use "Clear 1-3-6-9-0 Off" to hack as discribed before but in all configuration of my universal remote control "clear" seems to have same function that "HDMI" that is already on DRC275 remote control.

Any Idea of others tests that I should do in order to cover all possibilities? Remote Control is RCR3273 and DVD player is DRC275

    Thanks

    Marcelo

You will need the original remote or a universal remote that maps the needed buttons. Or you could just buy a DVD player that is already region free.

I have tried several codes for RCA DVDs and all "clear" seems to have same function of "HDMI"bottom. I bought this last week and forgot to check if was possible to hack. I canīt refund because I am in Brazil and I bought DVD in NY.

If I am unable to chance this for region 4 or free I think that it will be the most expensive paperweight that I ever bought.!!!

    Tests tips are still welcome.

    Thanks

If you need a cheap DVD player with HDMI out (720p and 1080i but not 1080p) then the Philips DVP3960 is sold at WALMART for about $40 and can easily be made REGION FREE with a simple remote control "hack" using the supplied remote control. It also does PAL to NTSC conversion fairly well.

If you want HDMI out with 1080p then the slightly more expensive Philips DVP5982 (about $60 at Circuit City) is the one for you and it also is easy to make it REGION FREE with built-in PAL to NTSC etc.

I know this doesn't help you solve the RCA issues but at least you know what to buy now if you cant' make the RCA region free etc.

the removal of region and maybe macro would have been icing on the cake. the rca performs very well otherwise.

i already have region/macro free machines but no HDMI
    on them.
