I've got a DVD I'd like to send to a relative in Australia.

I know he has a Sony player, but not the exact model.

Is the player likely to be able to play a Region 3 DVD?

Most likely, especially as most players are region free out of the box (past 3 - 5 years). If it isn't then it will likely have the ability to region free it.

Exact model will help of course, but best guess is that it will play.

Thanks. I'll take a chance and send it.
I was concerned about it being Sony, they seem more anal about that kind of thing.

With a Sony, 50 - 50 chance. If he bought it from a Sony store and it's a few years old then it may be region locked.

Simply out of curiosity, my first region free player was an early Pioneer, and although it had region 4 on the box and on the case itself, when you got into the menus and looked at the version information, it was actually internally region 3 if queried.
