Sorry to bother you, because I haven't looked all over this amazing site for the answer.

I have a 50MB .avi file, and I'd like to make high quality 4 X 6 color pictures of about 20 different frames. I prefer Mac software and nothing too complex.

    I have an Epson 1280 and RX595.

What's the best and easiest software to do this chore ?

    use Capture Me.
    or
use Quicktime Pro to export to Image Sequence and set
the intervals if you know them to get the frames you want.

Use what you already have on your Mac.

Play the movie in QT Player. Stop at the appropriate frame(s). Use the left and right arrows to navigate, frame-by-frame, if you didn't stop at exactly the right frame. Press Command-Shift-4 and drag a selection over the frame. Open the capture in PReview and print.

Alternatively: After pressing Command-Shift-4, press the spacebar. The cursor will turn into a little camera. Move your cursor over the QT Player window and it will highlight. Click the mouse button. You've snapped a picture of the QT Player window including the widgets (title bar, scroll bars, etc.). Open in Preview and print (or crop in Preview and then print).

Thank you, both. But will this give a high enough resolution, equivalent or better than an Adobe PREMIER program ?

If using QT Pro, how does one adjust the capture to fill a 4 X 6 print on an inkjet ?

One other issue: QT Pro (latest version) can't play this avi, Win Media Player doesn't play it. VLC Player will run it, but without sound. It plays with sound on a PC with WMP.

  5. you'll need photoshop or graphic converter to set up the prints properly, a 4X6 print will need to be 800X1200 pixels for your inkjet, you might also be able to get away with 600X900 depending on what DPI you print with...

do you have Perian 1.1 installed on your mac?
if not, install that and see if Quicktime will then play the .avi.

I added the XVID codec into the QT Lib, restarted QT, and now the sound and video play fine.

Should I use Premier or QT to extract the jpg ???????

Thank you, TJ. Did what you said, and used QTPro -----> Image Sequence files, then PREVIEW to print the selected image sequence frame. Turned out very well.

    Thanks again.
