I'm buying a brand new machine to use for Procoder 3 + Sorenson Squeeze.

Specs - Should I be looking for a machine with?:

    - powerful CPU
    - 2GB RAM

I was looking into Dell workstations

    Can anyone advise me.

All video coding is CPU-intensive. If your programs are multi-threaded then a quad-core is by far the best option. Even if they are not multi-threaded, a Quad core might be wise. Dual core would obviously be the minimum. Apart from those things, higher clock speed is always better. The amount of RAM is not a big concern, but FASTER RAM might be. 2 x 1GB stisks of RAM would be adequate, but it needs to be the fastest RAM available. (lower timings)

Go for the quad-core. I use Procoder 3 for encoding HDV. Using Task Manager, I find that it can use all 4 cores at roughly 100%.

I think those workstations will take 2 quad-core CPUs.
