I receintly put a brand new Pioneer DVD-116 ROM into my Dell PIII 866Mhz computer with Super ATA controller. I got error ID 11 in the event log of Windows 2000 saying "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0". Don't know if it's the DVD ROM or the controller or the cable or the OS causing the trouble. Need help. If any one out there has the same problem?

Since you don't know exactly where it is, I suggest you check the cable, the cable connection, and everything, including update IDE drivers for your board and you might have a defective drive, that can happen as well.

I tried one thing. It seems to fix the problem. But only time will tell since it was a ramdom problem. What I did was to change out the IDE robin cable with a Super ATA 80 Cond cable since it's a super ATA controller. I think Dell use regular 40 Cond cable to save cost.

That was a wise move, as the Pioneer DVD is a UDMA66 drive (unlike most of the rest which are UDMA33), and you might have even increased the reading speed.
