just wanted to know, cos i'm a newbie at video converting and burning, what's the best format i can convert my .rm/.rmvb files into so i can burn them into a DVD?

If your end goal is to make a DVD comprised of .rm/.rmvb files playable on a standalone player, convertxtodvd would be the easiest choice for a beginner - it will take .rmvb directly and author DVD video files (ie. VOB's) with simple menus in 1 step
You generally want to avoid multiple conversions to intermediate formats: the more conversions the more quality lost, and real media files are usually already heavily compressed with a low bitrate

I've had rvmb (the curséd Real Media Variable Bitrate) files that ConvertXtoDVD choked on. If that happens, I've had success with super, WinAVI Video Converter or EO Video.
Not as easy, but doable.
