Advice on blank DVDs

I know this has been asked a million times, but I'm not looking for media that is super good. What do you use as a good general reliable bulk blank DVD.

Actually, this is a very good question. I wish more people would ask it rather than just buying anything cheap and assuming it will work OK. I have a friend who sometimes gives me old music videos (not on DVD anywhere) of old bands we're both interested in and asks me to give a copy to my brother. I have a very hard time copying his DVDs because they suck. They have a lot of bad sectors.

The best media you can get are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. You'll have to mail order Taiyo Yuden at places like

and others. If you have an inkjet printer and can print directly to printable DVDs, Taiyo Yuden's Watershield DVD-R discs are just outstanding. Taiyo Yuden makes excellent DVD-R and DVD+R discs, but in North America you won't find any other types of discs from them. Verbatim makes DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW and DVD+/-R DL discs. For DL discs, we do recommend you stick to DVD+R DL as the DVD-R DL discs are expensive ($3+ US per disc - yikes!) and more difficult to burn than DVD+R DL discs. For burning, we strongly recommend the use of the free ImgBurn program.

To be fair, you're not asking about good quality media like this. But seriously, if you just want crap, then buy anything but Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden and pray that it works. Maybe it will. Maybe it won't. If you don't care enough to get good quality media, then just get what's cheap and throw away the discs that fail. If you mail order, both Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are quite affordable, but if you want a 50 pack for $10, then don't come crying to us when those discs turn into coasters or are unplayable a few years from now.

I do not know why but I have had good luck with stuff from Tiger Direct/blankmedia.ca/blankdvdmedia/ and the brands have ranged from TDK/HP/Philips, do not buy the itchy woomy brands, my own bad luck has been with Maxell.
I Once bought a Lite-on burner, quickly went back to LG's, I find them very good.I also get Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim,the latter often go on sale at future shop, and Circuit city had them for $10.00 for 50 !, if you know you will use them, stock up when they go on sale.
With Taiyo Yuden they are actually not that expensive, say you ordered these:-

even if you use 100's the actual saving, of , say $15 a 100 disc cake, and you use 2000, thats only a $300 saving for your entire project, is it really worth risking your whole dvd collection for $300 !

I usually wait til Verbatim goes on sale. Got my last stack of 100 for $19(US), but I'd imagine there's a comparable price up north.

Best Buy had the Verbatim dvd-r/+r 100 count on sale for $22.
Found this sale by reading this very forum!!!!
