  1. I need to get a good printer that prints directly onto the inkjet printable DVD and CD media. Can you guys give me some opinions and suggestions to point me in the right direction?

HP Photosmart D5160 does a nice job and the ink is relatively inexpensive, however the software that come with it sucks.
Epson R200/R300 series also do a nice job but the ink is nearly as expensive as the printer. It has decent software that comes with it.
Last I knew the Canon needs to be modified to print on CD/DVD in the US. I'm told it's not a big deal, but you have to buy the tray separately.

My comments about ink are referring to OEM inks. Third party inks are usually cheaper, but may be crap. Choose third party ink carefully and only buy from someone you trust.

I don't see disc printing listed anywhere in the description of this one. It looks like a nice printer.

  5. Canon's US printers have disc printing disabled (patent issues). You can often get a CD/DVD tray and hack the printer to enable disc printing:

  6. I think I'll just buy a brand that has the function to start with.

  7. Go with the HP5160 and get a copy of Surething CD labeling software. I have it now and it works great. I had an Epson R300 and it was nothing but a headache.

  8. I actually did order the HP5160 this morning and I have Surething already so I should be good to go. I stocked up on TY printable discs and ordered extra ink also. Thanks for the suggestions.
