So do the applied filters show up by themselves? Or do you have to make the script yourself?

    Hello,
You can also do this with AVSP, another AviSynth script creator, I do this all the time to WinFF instead of MeGUI. Do your demuxing/filtering etc in VDub, frameserve the file as a .vdr, open it in AVSP and save it as a .avs file, then you should be able to open it in MeGUI, You will have to open your Video and Audio separately in MeGUI so just open the audio you demuxed in Vdub. This workflow is also a terrific way to combine AviSynth and Virtualdub filters together.

go to tools-avisynth script creator in megui. load your .vdr file in the dialog box. disable the resize box. hit the save button and save it as xxx.avs. you will find xxx.avs loaded for video encoding in the input tab. you will have less problems with the audio if you save it as wav and then load it in megui in the input tab. you can also load the xxx.avs for audio conversion if you wish, but it might crash if you try to convert audio to aac via nero, works with faac.

Sounds painful and incredibly slow. Are you sure you can't achieve the same results with Avisynth alone?

    @Soop,
Well it is convoluted, but not really that slow. It's what the OP asked, and it does work. I do agree with what you're saying though.

    Hey peepz,

Wow really fantastic tips people, thank you so much for this.

I couldn't figure out how to do it, and i couldn't find any info on it. Loading VDub plugins in Avisynth is just
    to complicated for a n00b like me....LOL

Another small question if i may, before i got the info of you guys i actually frameserved to FAVC(don't laugh)

Then i would encode the video with HC encoder with highest quality settings, and the outcome is just fantastic.

My question is actually, is pre-encoding a low bitrate source to a higher bitrate with filters better?

    Thanx for your help,

    salidarius

Not a straight forward question because it all depends on the filter, and what parameters you input, and how much the lossiness (yes lossiness with any filter) is.

You will never improve the quality of any source when encoding to any lossy codec at any bitrate. Raising the bitrate only lessens quality loss, not gains more quality. And filters are only cosmetic - kind of like a girdle thinning a waistline, it makes you "look" thinner, not "be" thinner.

Give us more details on what filters you want to use and what you want to do.

As for the fact of frameserving being complicated for the average n00b, I agree somewhat. I do it with several different apps, but for some reason it took me a while to get VD doing it correctly (I use it for transferring stuff to TMPGEnc).

In the meantime, if you can't get it to work with MeGUI, you can always use an interim lossless codec like Huffyuv. Not the most optimal solution logistically, but can still be implemented in your workflow with virtually zero additional quality loss in the process.
I hate VHS. I always did.
