I am doing dvd to dvd, and I am resizing with tmpeg, and saving the tpr, and running that through CCE. I am changing the dvd from 720x480 to 352x480 in tmpeg. I am checking keep the aspect ratio, and 1:1(vga), but the video stream is still stretched vertically, and the black bars are added to the sides(ie left and right). What I am I doing wrong, I want to keep the aspect ratio, but resize to 352x480. Virtual dub does the same thing when I resize, and I have found tmpeg to be faster, so I want to stick with tmpeg. HELP!!

If your DVD is widescreen, set the source aspect ratio to 16:9, otherwise 4:3. Set the output aspect ratio to 4:3.

In TMPGEnc, go on Settings (besides load and save) and click on Advandec tab, Video arrange Method, and try Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)...

have you tried avisynth to framserve? It is faster than vdub or tmpge. It is pretty easy to get the hang of. not flask and avisynth but avisynth it self. I have a really easy guide you can check out if your interested. its at www.vcdhelp.org under the guides section.

Now, I am lost. I was doing what fred and kineera recommended, so I knew that wasn't the problem. Now I set my settings in tmpeg, and converted with tmpeg. It was perfect, aside from the ass quality. Full screen, etc. I didn't even close the tmpeg window, so I saved the settings as a tpr, and frameserved it to cce, and its distorted. What the hell is going on. I will try avisynth, and get back to you.

Well, just to be clear, if you are using "1:1 (vga)" anywhere, then it's not going to look right. Your source and output aspect ratio should match if you're doing DVD to DVD. However, you do not want to use the preserve aspect ratio option or it will letterbox it on the sides (TMPGEnc blurs the distinction between resolution and DAR, in a sense). Just use full screen.

I have been testing with every different aspect ratio now. When I encode it in tmpeg it resizes correct, but when I frameserve to cce, it adds the black bars. I tried it with all tmpeg's aspect ratio settings. The "center" one is the only one which keeps the aspect ratio, but it letterbox's the entire thing! Has anyone actually done this, because I am beginning to think its not possible to resize to 352x480 without stretching it. Anyone who has resized to 352x480 please tell me what you did. Vdub or tmpeg doesn't matter, I get the same result. I even tried 352x240 and it adds letterbox all the way around. Please if you have done this let me know, and don't spare any details!!

I resize virtually everything to 352x480 (with Avisynth). Are you perchance using CCE's DVD-compatibility option? Word is, that will cause it to resize to 720x480 automatically, although I don't know whether it letterboxes or just stretches the video to accomplish that.

Holy shit kinneera, you are a genius. I didn't think CCE would add letterboxing or anything either, but that was the problem! Damn CCE and its low tech software!!!
