Hi im having a problem with some .wav files that i have created in virtualdubmod. I'll try to be as detailed as possible in my explanation. Hope its enough to get some good advise.
Basicly I have 2 DVDRs one is in English and one is in Japanese the english version has adbreaks in it and the Japanese is full. What im doing is using MPG2CUT2 to convert the VIDEO_TS folder's to a MPEG2's the loading them into virtualdubmod. And using as much of the english audio as possible and filling the gaps with the Japanese audio. Now cutting the .wav files from either DVD is no problem at all. But the .wav's i get are very different in size and bitrate. From the English DVD they come out at 256kbs, but the audio from the japanese DVD comes out at like 1536kbs. Now that in itself is not a problem but when i come to load them into Wavelab, to join them together, it says that the 256kbs files from the English DVD are not valid. I can play them in Media Player Classic, but no other program exepts them for me to either convert or join them together. So im a bit stuck for what to do.
So if anyone can suggest any tips that would be great, i guess the ultimate thing i could have would be a way of making virtualdubmod export mp3 files but im guessing thats not gonna happen lol.

    Thanx in advance people

The 1536kbs files are actual wavs, while the 256kbs files are actually AC3 or MP2 files with .WAV file extensions.

I don't recall why VdubMod does that, but I'd encourage you to try the free AOA Audio extractor app.

If you don't use audio 'Full processing mode' and 'No compression (PCM)' with VD or VDM when you save out a WAV file, you can end up with the original file in a WAV wrapper, which sounds like what may have happened.

Thanx for the advise guys, urm this is a very noob question but if im just getting .AC3 or .MP2 files with .WAV extentins, can i not just change the extentions and go from there?
I have downloaded the AOA software aswell and will be giving that a try aswell. Will let you know how i get on with it.

    Thankyou

If the audio file is in a WAV container, changing the extension won't change the file, just the container extension, AFAIK. Think of it like a folder with a file inside. But give it a try. But if your purpose is to create a PCM WAV file from the audio original format, I would just use full processing.

In VDM, 'Streams>Stream list'>R click on the audio file>'Full processing mode'>'Compression'>'<No compression (PCM)>'>'OK'>'Save WAV' Done. If the file is AC3, you may need AC3 ACM Decompressor installed.
