I have imported media files from my Sony Handcam (mini dvd) to my computer. I am wanting to burn them to a dvd disc to share with family. I used Nero and the Motion Picture Browser software that came with the camera. Both "look" fine. I have read the manuals done what I am supposed to do, I burn it, I have picture but no sound. I believe I may have found part of the problem (but am not totally sure). They are in a MPEG-2 format. A few things I have read said that Nero and possibly the motion picture software will not work with this format. If this is true - what do I do? If I need to convert - to what and how? I also have a VOB file that I dubbed from a VHS tape onto DVD and am unable to burn with sound with the MPEG-2 videos. This may be because of the MPEG-2 files still. Not sure.
This problem has been frustrating me for a while and I would like to fix it.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

MPEG-2 video is standard for DVDs. Do you mean MPEG-1 Layer2 audio? It should also work fine on most any DVD player. You might want to take a look at the the DVD specifications, format and structure. Look to the upper left on this page for 'WHAT IS' DVD.
What are you playing the video back on? If it's a computer and your file has AC3 audio, you may be missing that codec. But AC3 should play back on all set top players without problems.
You might want to take one of your video files and drop it into Gspot and see what it says about the audio and video formats and compare that to the DVD specifications, and see if the audio is really missing.
And welcome to our forums. -
Thank you so much for the quick reply.
I am sorry to say I am not sure on the MPEG-1 thing -- all I know is when I look at the properties for the video it says it is a MPEG-2. The extension on the file is .mpg.
I burned one dvd and there was no sound when I tried to play it back on the computer or when I tried to play it on my DVD player (which is a VCR/DVD player burner).
When I preview what I am going to burn there is no sound either. There is sound when I just play the clip on my computer; the sound disappears when I put it into the software to burn. I did not know if I needed to convert it to something else or if I am doing something wrong. As I said before one manual I read said that MPEG-2 would not work in that program but I don't know how to change that. I would think the software that came with the camera would work. Is it possible I have a setting that is wrong on my computer? I can burn Music CD's with sound just fine.
