Region 1 dvd, ntsc, pal

My sony dvd player is regionfree. My dvd-movies ( they are original, I bought them at Play.com ) are region 1. But my ASA 28" television ( it's made in about 1992 ) doesn't have NTSC. However, the dvd's will play, I can watch rhem and I can hear the voices and subtitles in the movie will show. But only problem is that I can't see them in colour. I can watch them black&white. But do I have to buy a new television if I want to see those dvd's in colour?? Or what? ( all my region 1 dvd's are colour movies ).

Start by checking your DVD player settings. You can probably force it to output NTSC material as either PAL or PAL60. Your TV should handle either and give you colour. The compromise may be a loss of smoothness during pans and zooms. Failing that, unless you really want to get a new TV, you might consider changing your player to one that will output NTSC as PAL. I certainly don't see it as warranting a format conversion except as a last resort.

Player is sony dvp-ns330. I bought it 3-4 years ago. I saw what button "display" said, but nothing like that... Is it "picture mode" button? Or what should I press?, I just didn't find like that.

It will be in a setup menu somewhere. If you have the manual, now is the time to get it out. If not, you may be able to download a copy from a Sony website.

there isn't a mention of ntsc in manual. But I tried to see with remote control;

setup, custom,

-screen setup?
- custom setup?
- audio setup? ( not this one )


Manual is made 2003.

Hi sonydvd,

The Sony dvp-ns330 can according to the manual output RGB, so you should be able to watch the movies in colour when using a SCART cable that supports RGB. The player can be set to output RGB on the SCART in the "SCREEN SETUP/LINE".
