DVR to PC

not sure if this should be here or capturing.

i have a scientific atlanta 3250 dvr. the box has a 1394 port on the back. is there a way to transfer a stream from the dvr's hard drive to my pc via firewire?

Depends on the DVR. Many vendor supplied (cable company provdided) units have the 1394 port disabled. The only way to know for sure would be to try it.

once connected by firewire, how do you access the shows on the dvr's hard drive? does it show up as an external drive? do you just select the show from the menu and it's output over the 1394 port as it plays?

I doubt that 1394 connector is enabled anyway.

I believe it should output a video stream as you are playing the file.

You need the firewire (1394) drivers, as well as a capture program (CapDVHS). Do a search here or on afterdawn.com and you'll find the thread that shows how.

BUT:

1: Your firewire port on your DVR has to be *enabled*
2: The channel you're tuning in to has to be *unencrypted* (no 5C encryption)
