Hopefully this doesn't cross into religion / politics...

I was at a store the other day talking to one of the sales associates and saw a young girl and (I'm guessing) her boyfriend. She looked to be 15 / 16 and very pregnant. The subject of sex education came to mind and I was wondering what everyone's take was. I would probably choose to talk to my kids (when I have them) about sex before such time as it came up in school, but I wouldn't object to them being taught the basics at school as well. Some people think that it has no place in schools, some think it's a great idea and some don't care one way or another. I was just curious to see what the rest of the folks here think.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

I think it should be learned at school. But Parents need to discuss with there Kids as soon as they are able to understand what Sex is....We taught both of our kids about it when they were 11 years old.....

I will agree to discuss this subject AFTER finding out
a rewardable way to eliminate all monotheist fundamentalists and their
    stupid "cultural" legacy.

I really think they should learn the basics at school, but also strongly agree with what Bodyslide said.

I'm young enough to have been in school when this teen pregnancy epidemic was running wild. Having pregnant girls in class was normal. In fact, my prom date already had a daughter.

I feel more should be taught in school. I had a quarter of PE class freshman year devoted to "learning" about the birds and bees (mostly devoted to STDs) and a field trip in 6th grade to learn about how the sperm joining with the egg creates an embryo.

Too many parents I feel think their kids shouldn't know these things until they're 18. I know my parents were like this (catholic immigrants). They feel anything having to do with sex is dirty. So these kids have to learn about sex on their own. And since the schools don't teach much at all about it (and I've heard that abstinence is being taught now) they have to find out from friends who have experience or they try to learn on their own.

Me - I'm buying a shotgun and a rocking chair. That should take care of any problems.

They should learn it from watching porn, just like I did.

Interesting remark. I mean, unless the parents happen to be
exceedingly animalish, they will remain unable to actually prevent their own "underages"
from having sex/masturbating/reading porn texts/seeing porn magazines/watching porn videos.
