'Hearty Eaters' Say Buffet Banned Them

HOUMA, La. (AP) - A 6-foot-3, 265-pound man says a restaurant overcharged him for his trips to the buffet line, then banned him and a relative because they're hearty eaters. A spokesman for the restaurant denies the claim.
Ricky Labit, a disabled offshore worker, said he had been a regular for eight months at the Manchuria Restaurant in Houma, eating there as often as three times a week.
On his most recent visit, he said, a waitress gave him and his wife's cousin, 44-year-old Michael Borrelli, a bill for $46.40, roughly double the buffet price for two adults.
"She says, 'Y'all fat, and y'all eat too much,'" Labit said.
Labit and Borrelli said they felt discriminated against because of their size. "I was stunned, that somebody would say something like that. I ain't that fat, I only weigh 277," Borrelli said, adding that a waitress told him he looked like he a had a "baby in the belly."
Houma accountant Thomas Campo said the men were charged an extra $10 each on Dec. 21 because they made a habit of dining exclusively on the more expensive seafood dishes, including crab legs and frog legs.
"We have a lot of big people there," said Campo, who spoke for owner Li Shang, whose English is limited. "We don't discriminate."
Labit denied ever being told he would be asked to pay more than the standard adult price.
The argument grew heated, and police were called.
The police report states, "The incident was settled when the management advised that the bill was a mistake and, to appease Ricky, the meal was complimentary."
Labit said he insisted on paying but was told not to come back. He complained that when seafood on the buffet line runs out, the restaurant only grudgingly cooks more.
Campo said the proprietress tries to reduce waste of quality food, he said.
"Food is for eating, not toys for your child," reads a sign posted on a wall in typewritten text. A handwritten addition reads "Or 20% added."

I could agree about the kids because they cause a lot of waste and some parents can care less instead of teaching them that's not good thing to do but if you're going to advertise "all you can eat" it better be "all you can eat" otherwise. This actually happened to a couple i know in local Chinese restaurant where they refused to give them any more crab legs and they were certainly not over eaters, I wonder how many others they tried to pull it on.

Stories like this seem to pop up all of the time. The are a couple of different ideas and some culture clashing going on in most cases.
I agree that all you can eat should be all you can eat but you gotta help the restraunt out by eatting a little filler on the side to help them keep the cost down. Five pounds of crab legs alone is getting a little greedy, at least have a salad or something else to help fill you up. If you are gonna eat ten pounds of food then spread it out a little, fruits, veggies, grains different types on meats.
Actually I have taken small crews to these types of places when we work out of town. We will usually work through lunch keeping in mind that we will pig out at the buffet later. Simple communication with the restrauant staff can go a long way in making the visit enjoyable for us and profitable for the restrauant. We will flat out warn the restraunt that we are going to wear out whatever the finest food item is, be it prime rib, crab, catfish whatever. I think that they know when a construction crew comes in that the company will pay the bill and that leaves room for the crew to go heavy on the tips. I know that we have left tips well over 75% of the bill (often more if the wait staff is female with a pulse). Some people don't tip at self serve buffets and cafetieras(SP) but I usually do and when I am out with the ruffians that are my crew I can pretty much weak mind them into leaving a little something by just throwing out a couple of bucks for seed money. I can almost gaurantee that this clown was not even a decent tipper or even personable or polite to the staff. I think that in eight months and three times a week the staff had finally had enough of him.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
I haven't been to all you can eat in while but I've never sat down and ate just the most expensive thing. I wouldn't enjoy eating all crab to begin with. I like varieties in my meals. A lot of people eat salad because it's healthy , i eat it because I like it.

"New Kid on the Block" is the 8th episode of The Simpsons' fourth season.
Homer watches an advertisement on television about "The Frying Dutchman," an all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant run by Captain Horatio McCallister and wants to go.
Homer goes to the restaurant with Marge, but Marge is allergic to fish. Homer orders the all-you-can-eat and eats everything. Captain McCallister kicks him out after midnight. He goes to trial with his lawyer, Lionel Hutz, claiming false advertising. Homer and the captain make an agreement: Homer is put on display as "Bottomless Pete; a remorseless eating machine", or "nature's cruelest mistake".
According to the DVD commentary for this episode, the all-you-can-eat restaurant sidestory was added to the show after a planned sidestory involving a guest shot by Don Rickles fell through due to miscommunication with the Simpsons staff (someone had told them that Don Rickles wanted to do the show, and he did not.) There was also another planned sidestory, before the restaurant sidestory, that involved Homer becoming a talented barber, but it was rejected.
This episode features the first appearance of Captain Horatio McCallister (and the fact that he is the proprieter of The Frying Dutchman fish restaurant), and the only mention of his real name.
Lionel Hutz tells Homer he considers "The NeverEnding Story" false advertising.
