Hello, I got a strange problem, but I am sure there is an explanation for this.
When I play all kind of video formats, AVI WMV etc, the colours looks normal. When I play DVDs in MPC
the colors looks bad, the black is not really black, it is more grey, I use the black as reference point, cause black should always look black on the tv screen not grey. As I said I do not have this problems with Xvid.
I have tried to switch between vmr 7 and 9 in MPC, without any difference. I have also tried VLC. The picture seem to look better in Windows media player 11 for some reason, but then the sound do not work there...Does anyone know what this is about ? I am using S-video and a ATI 9200 gfx.

Differences between players is a sign of codec issues or settings. For DVD playback, you are concerned with your mpeg2 codec. You likely have several instead in your system already, there are some here under Tools - codecs, or you can use FFDShow.

Video overlay can affect video playback also (under advanced in your video settings), but this would should affect playback in ALL players. Most players and some codecs also allow you to adjust video settings.

Yes, I think I found what it was now, it was libmpeg2 in internal filters in MPC. I must also once again repeat, that it DOES look good on the screen, the GREY colour is only on the TV out. This needs an explanation. When I did disable libmpeg2.dll (I think this is ffdshow), the colors did look correct, but the picture did look very bad overall..very bad detail and quality. Installed that Dscaler5 codec from the TOOLS page..but I am not sure if this codec are used at all...how do I know ?

Appearance on your monitor and TV output are two different issues. As noted above, differences between players (as seen on your monitor) are a sign of codec issues. You may need to perform a little housekeeping. Installing codec packs, multiple players, and then more codecs is a sure way to create a real mess (both on your HDD and in the registry). Once everything is working normally on the PC again (playback on the monitor is normal), then you can troubleshoot the TV out.

TV output is mostly affected by the video drivers. However, the TV and how it is connected also has affects.
