    Heya.

When I use Virtualdub I can see and use my videocodecs like ffdshow with xvid and x264. But in my audiocompression settings I got nothing else but the standard ones. I have tried to install mp3 and ac3 by lames .inf file (rightclick, install) but I guess that only works with windows XP.
I have also installed ac3 by ac3filter and that one doesn't show up in Virtualdub either.

So how do I fix this? I really need some good audioencoder for Virtualdub. I have never had a problem with this in XP before but the registry in Vista is different so I guess I need some new installationfiles.

Anyone here know what I need to install to be able to use mp3 and ac3 as encoders in Vista?

    Cheers!

You need the ACM (audio compression manager) versions for use in Vdub. They work fine for me in Vista HP.

You can get the lame (mp3) ACM here:
    http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-dshow-acm.php

    and the AC3 ACM here:
    http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/AC3ACM/index.html

If you're having problems or are using 64-bit Vista, see this thread:

    Thanks for you quick reply.

I have looked at the links you posted but I still have the same problem.
First of all I don't understand what the authot if the posts mean by saying that the files were "blocked". And wich ones does he mean? The installationfiles or the ones in the systemfolders?

Anyho I also tried the "rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\tmp\lameACM.inf" cmdline but that didn't work either. I just got a error saying the file couldn't be copied to the targetfolder. I have both tried it when I had rightclicked and "installed" the .inf files and when I hadn't.

This is so damn wierd... I tried restard the computer and check in the registry and ALL the entries that are shown in the .inf files have been added to the registry. Also I copied the .acm files both to the system32 and syswow64 folder.

All of this and I still don't get the LAME MP3 and AC3 codecs in the VirtualDub.

Thanks for your help Squash but I really need some more help to get this to work. I really need those codecs. :/

I don't know what the block thing means, either, nor which files he's referring to.

I see by your reference to syswow64 that you're using Vista 64-bit. I'm using 32-bit myself so I'm not much use to you. Check this thread for a solution from Tagert that worked for somebody:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127242

As I understand it, in Vista64, 32-bit DLLs go into the syswow64 directory and 64-bit DLLs into the System32 directory. I don't know if having copies in both would cause problems, but I'd suspect it would. Also, Vista64 apparently has two registries, one for 32-bit code and one for 64-bit. See here for more on that if you're interested:

When you installed the files, did you do it with 'Run as administrator' mode with Vista? (R click on the installer and choose that mode.) I installed both files in my Vista computers with no problems and they show up in VDM. I use VirtualDub Mod most times with Vista, but it works basically the same as VD.

EDIT: I see mention of Vista 64. That's another whole scenario. But they still should run.
