  2. only mpeg 1 will play on my dvd. I had some of the same problems.
check your dvd manual. it should tell you if it is ntsc or pal and the frame rate. mine is ntsc @29.97 fps. make sure you go to settings on the bottom of TMPGE and select the format that fits your dvd. You should be able to burn it but again settings should be "CD-ROM ISO, if using NERO under file options LEVEL 1, MODE 2, check ISO 9660 uncheck relax ISO restrictions" hope this helps.

If u downloaded movies, the file must be DivX ones... so u need the same codec the file was created... most of them are divx 3.11 alpha. u may have 4.11 or 4.12 divx codec installed, and instructed it to play 3.11 files... u should uninstall 4.x codec, (reinstall it after, if u like it, without permission to play 3.11 files) and install 3.11 alpha codec...

  5. From what you posted, it sounds like you're heading in the right direction. Here's a little nudge: You have to use an authoring program to make an actual DVD-R that will play on your dvd player. First, select stream type MPEG2 and screen size of 720x480 for NTSC. Aspect ratio leave at 4:3 and select frame rate of 29.97. For rate control settings, the following usually applies, using a fram rate between 6000 and 8000 kbit/sec will give you good results while being able to fit a 90 minute movie on a single 4.7GB disc. Set Profile level at MP@ML. Set encode mode to interlace, andYUV format to 4:2:0, DC componenet precision to 10. Also, on the GOP tab, set the I, P, B and sequence headers to 1,3,2,1 respectively. This will give you generally good results. Now after TMPEnc converts the video, it woin't look exactly right. There will be some video noise when there is movement. The auhthoring program, whether it be Spruce-up or DVDit!, will do a sequence called demuxing, where it cleans up the video so it looks better. With the authoring program you also have to make what's called a 'first play' screen, which is what your dvd player will key on to tell it has a real dvd in it. Otherwise, without the first play screen, the dvd player will just spit the disc out. Hope this helps you out.
