Hi folks,
Been a long time lurker and have usually found a solution to all my problems by searching. But this time I couldn't find one on my own, so I signed up and thought I would post my latest experience.
I bought Underdog and tried to make a copy of it for the kids to scratch up.
This is a Disney production and has both the Full and Widescreen versions of the movie on one DVD9.
Normally I use DVDFab HD Decrypter and Shrink and that has always worked before.
This time DVDFab HD Decrypter (most up-to-date beta version) in full disc mode would only copy the fullscreen version of the movie. This is not what I wanted. I immediately came here and searched without results.
I ended up using RipIt4Me and got it to work that way.
Any insight into why this happened or what I did wrong?
Thanks

since the disc is a D9 both versions are on the same "SIDE". how is it you only have the full screen ripped to HDD? I don't think Fab (free) would successfully complete a "partial" rip. how large is the video TS folder of the ripped content? weird....

That's right that both are on the same side.
I didn't do a partial rip. Fab did it in full disc mode. When I selected main movie mode in fab it showed all the files it could see and there was only one version of the movie and it stated that it was 4:3.
On the first attempt with Fab, I just did the whole disc. I didn't even notice it had failed to rip the entire DVD until I opened the files in shrink and was confused as to why only the full version of the movie was there.
I could see both versions existed on the disc in Windows Explorer, and DVD Decryptor, but Fab couldn't.
That's my whole point. I know both versions where there as I could play it and see the files, but Fab, which has usually worked flawlessly, couldn't rip the entire disc. Weird.
Do you folks thinks I did something wrong or is this just some new encryption from Disney that Fab can't handle yet? -
In common settings>PathPlayer>tick "Disable PathPlayer" try it again...

Some DVDs are horribly authored and unless you are very experienced in dealing with this kind of crap, it can be very difficult to get the right movie.
I doubt you did anything wrong, but the DVD authoring may have been botched either due to incompetence on the part of the authoring person or perhaps even an "evil genius" thing where they deliberately made it in a bad way to thwart what you want to do. The most messed up DVD authoring job I have ever seen offhand is for the single disc of "The Office Season 1" (American series currently on NBC). If you ever want to see how NOT to author a DVD, that would really be an excellent example.
girdnerg - I can promise you that between you and your kids the ONLY person who cares about whether you copied the full screen or wide screen version is YOU, so you might consider just not worrying about it and using the full screen rip. Unless your kids are over 15 years old or the most unusual children ever, I really doubt that they will care. If they are under 10 years old, I can promise you that they don't care. -
I did get the widescreen version using RipIt4Me.
I do have pathfinder enabled in Fab and didn't think to turn it off. I'll check again and see if that was the problem. I had read at the Fab site that Pathfinder was the most robust mode, but took longer for the disc to load. Since the extra 15-30 seconds to load was not a problem for me, I just left it enabled.
You are probably right that the kids won't care. It was more of a "I ran across a problem and HAD to solve it" kinda thing on my part.
Thanks for the help and I'll report back if disabling pathfinder fixes the problem with Fab.
