I'm converting an AVI to DVD format using the default ffmpegX default DVD mpeg2enc. I'm loading a .sub file set to size 0. In options I'm checking No SVCD scan, Altivec, Bicubic, Letterbox, Decode with mplayer, and Thread: Dual CPU.

The conversion is successful, with subtitles intact, but when I watch the file on my system (before burning) the framerate is all wonky. . . smooth as silk for all of 1-2 seconds with a pause, then smooth again for 1-2 seconds and another pause (repeat ad nauseum.)

Any ideas would be a great help here.

    Thanks.

Is the .mpg file like that, or are you talking about a preview of the VIDEO_TS folder?
Also, what is the framerate (fps) here?

    23.976 FPS

This is when watching the Video_TS in DVD Player (opening the DVD media.)

It seems to me, what your output needs, is a 3:2 pulldown.
To add that, check the "Set 3:2" checkbox in the Options tab.
This will make Apple DVD Player (and tv sets) give smooth playback.
