    hi ive been trying to convert mkv to dvd so i can play it in my hd dvd. i can convert it to dvd but every software i use bring down the resolution. the mkv is 1280x720 but after encode it bring it down to 480. should i maybe convert the mkv to evo and burn that on dvd and try to play it and see if it works?? thanks

    DVD is max 720x480/576. So yes you need a hd-dvd authoring/converting tool that makes evo like Ulead DVD Moviefactory. https://forum.videohelp.com/topic341999.html

    ok i have moviefactory 6 but it does not support mkv

    Extract the video stream from the .mkv with mkvtoolnix,
    then use mp4box or something to place it into an mp4 container.
    (I'm assuming you have gotten an H264 video)

    how do i know if i have a h264 file?

    Open it in GSpot, or MediaInfo --- or Media Player Classic
    (menu "File", item "Properties", tab "Details").
