    From what I can find, region is hard set by Pioneer and cannot be changed (unlocked/hacked), although there do appear to be some models sold as region free.

    You can do the same thing by ripping the disc with a program such as DVDFab Decrypter and then burning to DVD. DVDFab can strip the region information making the disc region free. Note that this does not work with ALL players. Some players won't play region free discs.
