  1. I have a bunch of small DV files that I wish to join together. Does anyone know a simple way to do this with one command or tool so that I don't have to join them manually?

You can append them in virtualdub, then output using DirectStreamCopy mode so you don't have to re-encode.

  4. Anyone knows how to write such a batch script for Avisynth that doesn't involve typing each filename?

I don't think you can select multiple files to append in VirtualDub, that's why I asked.

If you use avisynth then you will have to re-encode all of them, costing you some degree of quality loss.

If you rename the files so that they are sequential (ie. file001.avi, file002.avi .... and so on) then the append will iterate through until the end.
    If in doubt, Google it.

If you need to do this often, you can use a file renamer such as this: http://www.download.com/3000-2248_4-10703208.html That speeds up the process when you need sequential file names for joining.
