  1. I agree with everyone that this sucks. I had my old Die Hard trilogy, which was fine. Last week the Ultimate Edition Trilogy came out. At least they used vaseline when they ass raped me becasue I found it for $50, but still, its $50 out of my pocket. Don't release a dvd until the shit is all put together! I can just see some marketers sitting around a table and snickering when one says "Lets put out an ultimate edition and add the TV previews". Dumbshits like me will go out and buy it though, so why not?

Reminds me of when I was a kid and I had He-Man, and then there was Battle-Action He-Man, and then Glow in the Dark He-Man, etc.,

How about that Akira tin? It's selling like mad but there's really nothing worth anything on the second disc. Seems like a stupid waste.

In General I agree too with what has been said. Mind you I got totally frantic when I heard what Microsoft has planned with its new XP OS. It won't incorporate JAVA (due to an out-of-court reasoning with Sun), it won't allow you to change it to different PC's (meaning if you have 2 PC's you have to purchase it twice), you have to purchase extra features like mp3 seperately. What does one actually pay over US$200 for in the first place? These days it's all "speed and greed".

  6. We will all be screwed anyways, I suppose, as DTS and other soundsystem options become more mainstream & readily available... they will want to reissue all the DVD's that havent already incorporated the new technology.

I suppose just about any product you can think of has this sort of BS marketing involoved... If you are not savy enough to get free MP3's why should you have to purchase the ENTIRE Alice in CHains box set for 4 new songs... a $50 box set and all you get is what you already have and 4 new songs.... hehe luckily for most of us we get mp3's =)

  7. Personally, that's why I never buy a movie until it's been out for a while. I used to be the ultimate Star Wars fan, but sometime after I got the "Special Edition" and realized what a rip off it was (The original was better anyway.), I really did lose my fandom. And then that second movie only came out on VHS, and I wasn't buying a panscan, but couldn't afford the wide screen. And now the DVD is comming out.... It's a shame that you can't sue Lucasfilm for lying, scamming, and missleading the public.

My tip - When the American companies scam you, buy the bootleg Cantonese version. Of everything the company produces for the next ten years.

Plus there are all the crappy movie remakes like Pearl Harbor which is really a cheap ripoff of Tora! Tora! Tora! and Gladiator which is a ripoff of Spartacus. In both cases the original movie is much better than the remake. The only thing good you get from the new movie is better picture and sound quality but the movies just aren't as good.

  9. I have never seen Tora Tora Tora, but see it out there in the DVD's. Is it a good movie? I mean not to upset you , but I love Gladiator and I have been hesitant to rent Sparticus.

I have Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia. Those epic flicks are cool... but the sound effects and music are sometimes lack-luster...

HERE IS ANOTHER THING THAT IS ODD... (hehe)
Why is it that they include those deleted scenes (example Gladiator) but no way to watch them in real time in the movie? Could it be sound track issues (music...etc.)?

The Snatch DVD lets you watch the deleted scenes where they're supposed to be. You have to turn on an option in one of the menus, so that it flashes a diamond in the corner of the screen when theres a deleted scene. If you want to watch the deleted scene you hit the enter button on your controller.

  11. I agree that it's a ripoff. I paid a lot for the 3 pack for Diehard Trilogy and they release a new 6 DVD set UE.
Imagine how it's going to be when they introduce another channel for DTS or DD. And when they release sequels(old or new), you can definitely assume that a UE multipack will become redily available(eg. UE 2 pack Mummy 1&2)

ANyone remember when movie laserdiscs (the big 'uns) came out with different formats, too? One like The Lion King, to my knowledge, has three different formats...
    the regular movie with letterboxing...
    another one with commentary...
and a third one with lithographs and other goodies plus the formats above.

Of course you can still buy either a pan & scan or letterboxed vhs (e.g. Patton, Robin Hood).

They had been doing this for YEARS and we just now knowing this?
