ok I give up. Some help please. Here is my situation. I have my PC located in the hallway of my apartment. I just bought the Onkyo HT-SR800 7.1 Home Theater Entertainment System. I love it. Now the distance from the hallway PC to the receiver is about 100ft away. I want to be able to play my MP3 music from my PC and hear it thru my new receiver. What can I use. Please help. What are my options. Thanks to all for the help.

I doubt you want to string a hundred feet of shielded audio cable down the hall, so leave that out.

The cheapest, and likely simplest, would be to use a FM modulator and feed your PC audio line out to that, to be picked up by your receiver. Your neighbors might also be able to pick up the signal, so that's one downside. With the average MP3 file, you probably wouldn't lose much if any quality.

It's very rare for a newer DVD player not to play MP3. Don't you have one in your home theatre? You can compile a selection in a CD.

Yes, my mp3 player can play mp3, but I wanted to create a jukebox on a spare 250gb HD, play the playlist on my computer and hear it thru the living room receiver. So I need to get some kind of FM modulator, any one know a good one. Thanks again to all.

If you have a wireless network, this works really well. It works wired, too, but looks like you'd need a heck of a lot of cable. http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_squeezebox.html

It's great. You can browse your entire collection without having to sit at your computer.

They have a forum w/ pretty helpful users if you have questions. http://forums.slimdevices.com/

Router would do. You could use some network cable. 100ft, though...ouch.

I can get with no problem or cost the network wire. I guess Squeezebox it is. I just hope it's easy to install?

You can try out the server software here, http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html. That has to be running on the computer you connect the Squeezebox to (unless you use an alternative like iTunes, I think), you point it to your 'music' folder (create shortcuts in that 'music' folder pointing to other folders/drives holding music if they're not in its sub folders), the rest is pretty much adding the Squeezebox to your network if I remember correctly.
