Can someone please suggest a good divx dvd player for me? It has to be one of those players that are very small width-wise due to size restrictions in my TV cabinet. Not a portable one. All the ones that I have found that play divx are the regular sized width. I know Coby and a few others make these tiny ones, but I have yet to find one that plays divx. Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to be aware that with "size restrictions" you are likely to find that any player you purchase will burn itself out in a year or less. To make them smaller, today's DVD players don't have cooling fans. This means that the players MUST be air cooled. You need to have a lot of open space around your player. If not, your player will sooner or later burn itself out. I've seen this happen with my brother's DVD player. Manufacturers love this trend towards smaller players because Joe Consumer is too stupid to know that he must air cool his player, so his player burns out in 6 months or a year (or maybe even 3 months) and he has to buy another one. If you can't properly air cool your player, buy the cheapest one you can because you WILL be replacing it sooner than you like.

Note that all DVD players that play Divx have a special chip in the player for Divx playback. Depending on the chip, the following things may or may not be playback problems:
    1) GMC (Global Motion Compensation)
    2) QPel (Quarter Pixel)
    3) Packed bit stream (can be removed with MPEG4Modifier without re-encoding)
    4) Resolutions greater than 720x576
    5) Video bit rates higher than 2000 Kbps. If your audio is anything except MP3, you may also find that video bit rates greater than 1400 Kbps cause audio playback problems and your audio drops in and out.

You can see a list of Divx certified players at divx.com. You should be able to do a little research on sizes from that list. You can also perform a search on Divx capable players here at this site, but again, you will need to look up the specs for each one.
