I ripped some VOB files from random dvd's and now I want to make my own custom DVD using the VOB files.
I shouldnt need to encode these files right? they should be in correct format to put into TMPGEnc DVD Author.
But they are not..... dvd author wont accept them....
I know I can run the files in VDUB and make a nice high quality avi file then encode them in TMPEnc, BUT why should I?

VOB2MPG did not work. My guess is that it needs the .ifo or .bup files from the video_ts folder. Although I could re-rip 27 DvD's again and then load the video_ts folders into VOB2MPG and then get the resulting .mpg........... I really would rather NOT.

All I have is the random .VOB video files. any other ideas?

I don't use TDA, so I don't know what it's problem is. All I can give you is that the VOB container was designed for DVD use, and can contain a lot more than just video and audio. This can cause problems for many tools, hence it is a poor container to use for your source material. Demuxing back to a video/audio stream (either elementary or programme) makes life much easier, even though it takes longer. I never work with VOBs for source.

So what options does that leave you ?

Look for a patch or upgrade to TDA

Demux using another tool - DGIndex, perhaps

Use DVD Shrink to reassemble your clips, then try using TDA on the results

Edit the clips together with VideoRedo or Womble first, then use TDA

Use GUIForDVDAuthor instead of TDARead my blog here.
