Hi. I've been wanting to do this certain effect for a while, but I can't figure out how to.

It's like a slow-mo effect, but it seems almost choppy and blurry. You might see it in a scene where someone dramatically drops a glass or something (:P)--like that slow, almost dazed effect.

Do you know what I'm talking about?
If so...Does it have to be done before the editing process on the computer? If not, what program is capable of this?

    Thanks.

Fairly basic, but if you have a AVI or you use VirtualDub, or VirtualDub Mod with a MPEG, and convert to AVI, just use 'Video>Framerate' and change the 'Source rate adjustment' to a low value, say 5fps, then in 'Frame rate adjustment', change it to a proper value, say 29.70 for NTSC or 25fps for PAL. Then use 'Save as' to make a new file. It will look a bit choppy, but that seems what you want. The audio will be lower/slower too, so you might not want to use it.

Play with it a bit to get a good effect. You can also add many, many filters available with VD that can change the output and appearance.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thank you very much (both for the advice and the welcoming)!

Edit: No wonder I couldn't do it. Ulead VideoStudio 9 can't pull something off that a free program can, apparently. >:|

But VirtualDub looks like a worthy competitor to any piece of budget software.

Edit 2: Oh, so it does automatically make certain things URLs. Heh.

You mean when you type in the name of a program? Yes, if they are listed in our 'Tools' section, it will link to them.

VD is a great tool. It has hundreds of filters available, can edit, encode, filter and frameserve to a MPEG encoder. And there are lots of guides available at the bottom of it's tool page. Kind of the 'Swiss Army Knife' for AVIs.

    Well worth learning.
