I have the Philips DVP5140/37. Before last night I had yet to run into anything that it would not play. However, I had some folks over last night and went to pop in a movie and it would only play the sound. It gave an error that said "Video Format not supported" .
The Video Compression Format of the movie was "MS-MPEG4 V2".
Is this because that format is an older format?
The firmware version on the Player currently is 37.06.77.02 and from what I can tell this is the most up to date firmware version.
So I guess my questions are;
1. Is there anything I can do to fix this so my player can play the MS-MPEG4 V2 format?
2. Is there a newer player that does play that format?
3. Or, am I stuck with having to convert any movies I have in this format over to a Divx format?

MS-MPEG4 V2 is an old MPEG 4 codec from Microsoft. It's not fully compatible with modern MPEG 4 part 2 (ASP) codecs like Divx and Xvid.
You might try using an AVI Fourcc Code Changer to change the fourcc code to Divx but I doubt that will work. It's likely you'll have to reencode with a program like AugoGK, VirtualDub, or AviDemux.
