I am looking for a motherboard that meets the following criteria and since there are like a million brands and models I thought I'd ask my fellow videophiles if they can think of one.
I need a model like the Abit BE6. If they still made it I'd buy one and Ebay is my only possibility for a used one. So here's the criteria. If you know of another current model please post it.
AGP slot
3 PCI
2 ISA - I have a SB16 and SCSI Scanner. No Sync problems with ISA
Overclockable - I currently have my cel 733 running at 1100 on my BH6
4 Busmaster IDE ports - NOT 2
3 SDRAM Slots
that's it. It's the BE6 except I live in Canada and most people on Ebay will only ship to USA.
Thanks
Bong

Why upgrade the motherboard unless your going to upgrade the processor as well?
Look on www.tomshardware.com for reviews and check prices on http://shopping.yahoo.com/ and you'll get a deal probably as good as ebay on a motherboard. I got some stuff cheaper then at a computer show I went to recently and I'm not sure if they all will send to Canada so you would have to check.
If you still want to go with Ebay search for sellers in canada there may be a few.
I looked on ebay for a while and could not find a very good deal on a new motherboard. I wouldn't get a used one off ebay unless the guy has a great rep and you really need to go cheap. I have gotten a couple crappy componants from there before and you can't get your money back most of the time.
The hard part will be finding a good one with 2 ISA ports. I would look for one with sound included and see if you can get a generic SCSI card for the scanner (check with the manufacturer) as the ISA ports don't show up on the better boards.
As for overclocking SOYO and SOLTEk make some good boards for that but your better off getting a new cpu and overclocking it.
I just ordered a AMD XP 1700 cpu for $122 and a Soltek SL-75DRV2 - The Overclocking King for $99.00 from www.newegg.com. Alot cheaper then Ebay. AMD XP chips are way better then the celaron you have now and can be overclocked.
Also look into DDR ram instead of sdram if you can. You can get 256mb 2100 ddr for about $60 or so. It its worth it.
Next Look into updateing to a hard drive with 7200 RPM and ata/100 or 133. This will speed up encoding of large files that have to access the hard drive alot.
I know that is more then you probably wanted to spend but your better off saving and getting some good hardware then trying to reuse every bit of your old system and having to get a middle of the road board.
