I recently downloaded SVCD2DVD 2.5 and I'm attempting to generate a DVD image from an HD basketball recording that I pulled from my DVR using iRecord on my MAC. I transferred the mpeg2 ts file over to my Vista box and then used MPEG Streamclip to chop out the commercials. I also cut the .ts file into separate files, one file for the pregame, and one file each quarter and the two overtimes in the game. I separated the game into separate files just so I could manage the work of chopping out the commercials over several sittings.

I then pulled the files into SVCD2DVD and told it to generate the DVD image. On both of my tries, SVCD2DVD seemed to "hang" on the second file (1st Quarter.ts) at the same "point" in the encoding (27.2% of the file, I think). The first file ("Pregame.ts", which is a much smaller file) encoded fine on both runs. When I brought up Task Manager, I could see ffmpeg was running (did not appear hung, as it's CPU usage not maxed out but varing between 50% and 70%). I figured that SVCD2DVD was just "working" so I let it go but after a few hours, my mouse and keyboard locked up and I had to reboot.

As implied above, I tried the encoding (same set of files) a second time, with the same result of SVCD2DVD "hanging" at 27.2% on the "1st Quarter.ts" file.

I saw the sticky posting on dust and overheating CPU. I don't think that is the problem because my PC is pretty new (about 1 month old). Plus, the problem occurred at the same point on the same file, which seems too coincidental. I downloaded the Orthos stress util and I'll run it overnight & follow up with a post in the morning on whether my PC is still running. (It's been running for 45 minutes so far, and my fan is still at a low speed.)

Here is the SVCD2DVD log from the 2nd run (with some of the newlines manually removed to shorten the length of the post). The log from the first run looks similar (I can post it too if that will help).

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!!

The stress test was still running this morning (duration was 7.5 hours). Dwight, I'll try VideoReDo's "Quickstream Fix" as you suggested. Thanks!

Video Quickstream reported a "Mpeg stream error: Audio Ring Buffer Overflow" error. Hmmm... I still have the recording on my DVR. I'll try re-downloading (i.e., re-iRecording) that portion and report back.

Just curious... I'm using VideoReDo to "fix" my other .ts files. The resulting .mpg is much smaller. Any idea what VideoReDo does that results in a smaller file?

Looks like it may be a faulty file.

It may be how you're running it, are you saving as ".TS"? Try reading some of these posts starting here:

I finally had a chance to get back to this today. Thanks for the advice on saving as a Transmit Stream vs. a MPEG Program Stream. Actually, it turns out the reason the output file that VideoRedo's "Quickstream fix" was much smaller than the input file is because for some reason VideoRedo is not processing the entire file. The input file was the entire 2nd quarter of the basketball game plus halftime and totalled a little over 25 minutes in length. The "fixed" file ends with about 4 minutes left in the second quarter, with the total length at 14 minutes and 50 seconds (i.e., I "lost" about 9 minutes of the tail end of the stream).

I am using the "free/trial" version of VideoRedo. Does the trial version have some limit that kicks in when you attempt to fix a file? Or is there something wrong with my input file that causes VideoRedo to think its at the end of the stream before it really is?

  8. I am not aware of any limit in the trial version, I would have to say it's a source problem. You wouldn't still happen to have the unedited full file would you? VideoReDo is a great editor too.

Yeah, I've considered that it may be my edits to the full original file using MPEG Streamclip that resulted in the problems. I do have the original file, so I'll try using VideoRedo to do my edits (after running a QuickFix on the entire file) and see if I get better results. Thanks!
