SanDisk is releasing a DivX/XviD/MP4 decoder with USB in, TV out. Cool idea, but then, it's higher priced than many DVD players with USB ports, so - why?

  2. SanDisk is in Flash memory bussiness. This is just another way to combine these items :
Portable flash chip + Youtube on the go + USB form factor.

Note : :"USB stick" form factor becomes so popular, so we will see many equipment blister with bank of USB ports just for that.

These products differ from a DVDplayer with USB port in small size and portability.

The Sandisk press release for this product got great distribution, including being virtually copied in yesterday's Wall Street Journal.

Unfortunately its a slick implementation with too little memory and kind of ho-hum.

Lots of folks have commodity external enclosures which allow you to perform the same functions by mounting a 2.5" or 3.5" HDD in the box.

Is $37 and add any 2.5" IDE drive - like the one should be upgraded in your old notebook.

A/V function limited to 40GB Fat-32 partition but still 10x the Sandisk stick.

A 3.5" box for under $70. More file types still limited to Fat-32 for video playback. Easy to add a $50 BigBox Store Special drive and still come in 20% below the highe end Sandisk.
