I have a video on a DVD-R that I would like to put on my computer as an mpg, is there anyway to do this?

If you are wanting to copy a burned DVD-R to your computer, there should be no encryption involved. You can just copy it, like any other file. Or if you just want to extract the MPEG from the DVD, try VOB2MPEG. It depends on what you want to do with the file once you have it on your hard drive.
But if it's a commercial pressed DVD, there are several ways. You need a 'ripper' to extract commercial pressed DVDs to your hard drive most times. Newer DVDs have some fairly complex encryption. You may need a program like DVDFab HD Decrypter to backup the DVD files to your computer. Look to our 'Tools' section of the the left for other ripping/decryption programs. -
Well there is audio on the DVD it self, and if I play the VOB file on the DVD off the DVD itself it plays audio fine. I don't know when I run it through that program it loses audio.

You might not have an audio codec. I assume you have no sound when playing the file?
